What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy focuses on evidence-based assessment and treatment of soft tissue injuries muscle and joint dysfunction and pain. A Myotherapist uses treatment techniques such as deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, dry needling and cupping, plus an extensive evaluation to restore function of any affected muscles joints and nerves.

What do Myotherapists treat and what techniques do they use?

Myotherapists use various soft tissue manipulation techniques during treatment such as trigger point therapy, dry needling, deep tissue massage, hot and cold therapies, passive/ active muscle stretching and cupping. The care does not end when you leave the room as corrective/rehabilitative exercises or postural re-education may be given so as you can continue your recovery at home.

What conditions can Myotherapy help with?

Common conditions Myotherapy can help with include:

  • Headaches and migraines
  • Associated joint and vertebral pain and dysfunction
  • Muscle, joint and nerve pain
  • Neck and shoulder tension
  • Lower back pain and Sciatica 
  • Repetitive strain injuries such as tendinitis, carpal tunnel and tennis elbow
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia 
  • Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis 
What is the difference between Myotherapy and remedial massage therapy?

Myotherapy treats the cause, remedial massage treats the symptoms.

How will I know if I require Myotherapy?

If you experience joint stiffness, tension or deep nagging pain, sore spots within your muscles, tightening of muscles, reduced joint mobility or unexplained fatigue these are some of the signs that you may have injured your muscle fascia and require Myotherapy.

How long is a Myotherapy appointment?

Generally, appointments are 60mins, although depending on how many areas of the body require treating, 45mins and 30mins are also available.

Do I require a referral to see a Myotherapist?

No, you do not require a referral to see a Myotherapist.

Do you offer bulk billing?

No, Myotherapy is not covered by Medicare so therefore cannot be bulk billed. All payments are required on the day of the appointment. We accept cash, EFTPOS, HICAPS and all major credit cards.

Can I receive rebates for treatment?

Treatments can be claimed on the spot through your private health insurance extras cover with the use of our HICAPS facility. All you need to do is pay any gap!

Can I claim Myotherapy on Workcover?

Unfortunately, you cannot claim Myotherapy on Workcover.

Can I claim Myotherapy on Health Insurance?

Yes, providing you have relevant extras on your health insurance. Most health insurance companies will cover an amount or percentage of your appointment cost and you are required to pay the gap at the time of the treatment.

Can I see a Myotherapist during pregnancy?

Yes, Myotherapists are trained in pregnancy related issues.

Should I bring scans or x-rays to my appointment?

Yes, if you have recently had any x-rays or scans taken of any areas of concern please bring the report with you to your appointment.

What should I wear to my appointment?

We recommend you wearing something that you feel comfortable in.

Will I be asked to undress?

Your Myotherapist may ask you to undress some items of clothing depending on the area requiring treatment. However, this is completely optional and if you consent you will undress in private and be covered with a towel.
